PAPPY'S FUN CLUB - * * *
If you like your comedy light, frothy and supremely
daft, these bright-eyed boys are experts. Knowingly
absurd, in that very British style, these four
present a show that pairs clever, witty sketches
with brilliant clowning. Frenetic and wonderfully
tight, highlights include a Bob Dylan sketch,
an impressive skit about the rivalry between the
words left and right and a send-up of rubbish
pranksters. Each section plays to the various
strengths of Tom Parry, Matthew Crosby, Ben Clark
and Brendan Dodds and it's evident that as ramshackle
as the piece occasionally seems, there's real
joy in their work. If you're looking for something
a little more weighty this show may grate but,
for farcical giggles, it's good old-fashioned
fun.
